The Holy Prophet صَلَّی اللہُ تَعَالٰی عَلَیْہِ وَاٰلِہٖ وَسَلَّمَ said: Almighty Allah عَزَّ وَجَلَّ says:

يا ابن آدم، إنك ما دعوتني ورجوتني غفرت لك على ما كان منك ولا أبالي، يا أبن آدم، لو بلغت ذنوبك عنان السماء، ثم استغفرتني غفرت لك

“O son of Adam, I forgive you as long as you pray to Me and hope for My forgiveness, whatever sins you have committed. O son of ‘Adam, I do not care if your sins reach the heights of the heaven, then you ask for My forgiveness, I would forgive you.”

يَا مُقَلِّبَ الْقُلُوبِ ثَبِّتْ قَلْبِى عَلَى دِينِكَ

ya muqallib al-quloob, thabbit qalbi ala deenik

“Oh turner of hearts, keep my heart firm on your deen.”

لَّآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّآ أَنتَ سُبْحَٰنَكَ إِنِّى كُنتُ مِنَ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ

la ilaha illa anta subhanaka inni kuntu minaz-zalimin

There is no deity except You; exalted are You. Indeed, I have been of the wrongdoers.

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الْهُدَى وَالتُّقَى وَالْعَفَافَ وَالْغِنَى

Allahumma Inni As’alukal-Huda Wat-Tuqa Wal ‘Afaafa Wal Ghina O Allah.

I beg of You guidance, piety, chastity and independence (from your creation).

ربنا اغفر لي ولوالدي وللمؤمنين يوم يقوم الحساب

”Rabbanag-firli-Wali-Walidaya-Walil-Mumineena-Yauma -Ya-Kaumul -Hisab”

“Our Lord! Forgive me and my parents, and (all) the believers on the Day when the reckoning will be established.”

رَّبِّ ٱغۡفِرۡ وَٱرۡحَمۡ وَأَنتَ خَيۡرُ ٱلرَّٰحِمِينَ

Rabbighfir warham wa Anta khairur raahimeen.

“My Lord, forgive and have mercy, and You are the best of the merciful.”

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الْعَافِيَةَ

Allah humma inni As Aluka Al Afiyah

“O Allah, I ask you for Afiyah.

7.

اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَاهْدِنِي وَارْزُقْنِي وَعَافِنِي

Allahumma-ghfirli wahdini warzuqni wa’afini

O Allah, forgive me, guide me, grant me provision and give me good health

8.

رَبِّ إِنِّي لِمَا أَنزَلْتَ إِلَيَّ مِنْ خَيْرٍ فَقِيرٌ

Rabbi inni limaa anzalta ilayya min khayrin faqeer

My Lord, I am in absolute need of whatever good you send down to me

9.

HasbiyAllahu laa ilaaha illa huwa alayhi tawakkaltu wa huwa Rabbul arshil adheem

“Allah is sufficient for me. There is none worthy of worship but Him.

I have placed my trust in Him. He is the Lord of the Majestic throne.”

Astaghfir ullah-alladhi la ilaha illa Huwal-Haiyul-Qayyumu, wa atubu ilaihi

I seek the forgiveness of Allah, there is no true god except Allah,

the Ever-Living, the Self-Subsisting, and I turn to Him in repentance

    In an apparent snub by Phillips, the opening sequence of the
    film does not include a DC Studios logo.

    A Warner spokesman added that a DC logo appears at the end of the Joker sequel, while
    Phillips declined to comment to the publication.

    Several frictions are said to have developed between Phillips, DC and Warner- with claims that Michael DeLuca, Chairperson of Warner Bros.

    Entertainment, and CEO Pamela Abdy seemed ‘unwilling’ to say no to Phillips due to his huge past successes.

    It is claimed Phillips would ‘only’ speak with DeLuca and Abdy rather than Gunn
    and Safran – who took control of DC two months before production began on Joker 2 in December 2022.

    Gunn and Safran did attend the first director’s cut screening for the studio but Phillips fueled rift speculation when he told a reporter: ‘With all due respect to
    them, this is kind of a Warner Bros. movie.’

    Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav also met with Phillips shortly after WarnerMedia and Discovery merged in April 2022 and
    was ‘open to filming in Los Angeles if the director would make the sequel
    at a lower price point.’

    The studio wanted to film in London which would have cost around 20 per cent less.

    A source directly involved with the film recently shared: ‘The
    one thing about genre stuff: If you don’t listen and pay attention to what

    remains the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time 

    Gaga has been supported by her fiancé Michael Polansky in the lead up to the thriller’s premiere. 

    The couple was first romantically linked around New Year’s Eve 2019 and later went
    Instagram official in early 2020.

    Polansky is a 2006 graduate of Harvard University and runs Napster founder Sean Parker’s Parker
    Group.

    Despite lead single Disease stalling on the Hot 100 at No.
    27, the 38-year-old is forging ahead with her next
    album, which she described as both ‘fun’ and ‘darker.’

    Speaking to Vogue magazine about the project, Gaga said that she’s been focused on the production side of her new songs. 

    ‘I love producing — I always have — and something that was really important to me making my seventh
    studio album was blending live instrumentation with programming,’

    is a deeply personal look into my mind as a producer and the way I think about music.’

    She also said that the album has a ‘darker pop’ sound that’s more in line with her iconic

    ‘The album is not extremely serious in that it’s very fun and meant to be enjoyed at a party, in a club, or at home having personal fun time — to be free of your worries at home or walking through life,’ she insisted.

    Gaga released the album’s lead single Disease last month to rave reviews
    from music critics, who lauded it as a return to the star’s roots.

    Unfortunately, the acclaim failed to translate to the charts, with Disease debuting at No.
    27 on the Hot 100 – her worst entry for a lead single
    in 16 years.

    On the bright side, Gaga is currently enjoying one of her biggest hits

    and radio. 

    And it was all thanks to Anthony Albanese’s ill-informed attack on Aston over what was written in his book, The Chairman’s Lounge – The Inside Story of
    how Qantas sold us out.

    Despite the resultant terrible publicity – which has led to him being called ‘upgrade Albo’ – and calls for an inquiry, Aston told Daily Mail Australia his
    book is ‘not a hit job on Anthony Albanese’.

    Aston insisted he’s ‘not trying to get a scalp’, but reiterated that the Prime Minister ‘had a direct line to Alan Joyce’.

    The book claims Mr Albanese got 22 upgrades from economy on Qantas flights by personally requesting them from the airline’s then CEO Mr Joyce – which the Prime Minister has categorically denied.

    According to unnamed Qantas ‘insiders’, 11 of the 22 flights Mr
    Albanese got upgrades for were ‘privately funded’ and included overseas trips to Rome,
    London, Los Angeles and Honolulu. 

    But instead of addressing the claim, Mr Albanese chose to shoot the messenger and, in turn, shot himself in the foot. 

    He said Aston was using the accusations to sell books and said he was hiding his employment history. 

    ‘I don’t see declarations that he’s a former Liberal Party staffer… I don’t see declarations he’s a former Qantas employee,’ the Prime
    Minister said. 

    But before the book even gets to the contents page there is a photo of
    Aston that refers to him as the then-Qantas corporate
    communications senior adviser.

    ‘My professional history is not a secret or not disclosed,
    it’s in the first line of the first page of the book,’ Aston said on Tuesday night, just before his book launch. 

    Though he was grateful for the free publicity Mr Albanese’s response gave
    the book, Aston was still ‘staggered’ at the untrue claims about him the Prime Minister made. 

    ‘He’s under enormous pressure and I know, I’ve seen this many
    times with public figures and leaders who struggle
    to see their own part in it, the terrible circumstances that they create,’ he said.

    Asked if Mr Albanese had been poorly advised in his attack, Aston, who is a former Australian Financial
    Review columnist, wonders if the Prime Minister ‘even listens to advice at this point’.

    ‘All he’s doing is talking around the issue and he’s blaming me and he’s blaming other MP’s for also taking upgrades (on Qantas flights).

    ‘He’s avoiding the only thing that he can’t talk about, which is, did you ask Qantas for confirmed upgrades on your private holidays when you
    were the Transport Minister? The answer is “yes” and he’s desperately
    trying to avoid saying it.’

    Smelling blood, Opposition leader Peter Dutton said the Prime
    Minister should refer himself to the anti-corruption commission over the flight upgrades.

    Coming on top of Mr Albanese’s tone deaf
    purchase of a $4.3million clifftop mansion while so many people
    are struggling to pay their mortgage or rent, the latest
    blow to his credibility has led to calls for him
    to resign.

    Aston refuses to be drawn on this, though. 

    ‘I never expected this (part of the book) to even this part to get this far.
    I really am shocked at how it’s blown up.

    ‘So to the extent that it has, I would say … anyone who reads the book will learn that
    this book is not a hit job on Anthony Albanese.
    This book is about Qantas. 

    ‘Anthony Albanese is an example of how Qantas influences politicians on both sides of the aisle,
    Labor, Liberal, National, you name it. They’ve been doing it for more
    than a generation.

    ‘They’re the best influence peddler in Australia. I’m not here trying
    to get a scalp. That’s not what this book is about and it never was.’

    But the conversation Daily Mail Australia had with Aston mirrors the conversations being had across
    Australia and eventually winds up back on Mr Albanese. 

    ‘Even I’ve underestimated how fed up the public is with
    the freebie mindset of politicians,’ he said.

    ‘And unfortunately for Albanese, he’s been in politics a long time and
    that kind of behaviour is quite normalised to him, is what I’ve seen. 

    ‘I mean, he loves the free concert tickets and sitting at the
    front row of the Australian Open Tennis. 

    ‘I went to the Australian Open Tennis as a journalist almost every year for
    12 years and he was the only Prime Minister (I saw there).

    ‘Those tickets are worth thousands of dollars to sit in the
    front row of the International Grand Slam. He’s the first Prime Minister who
    I’ve ever seen do that.

    ‘That to me is a sign that he doesn’t quite get what it looks like to others when he’s on the gravy train. And I think (the claims in the book are) just another example of
    that.’

    In Australian politics it’s regular practise for an MP’s travel to be booked
    in economy, then someone in their office phones the airline and asks if their flight can be upgraded. 

    The difference with the Prime Minister is that ‘he had
    a very direct line to Alan Joyce,’ Aston said.

    ‘The other thing is there’s a difference between an upgrade where it’s
    in the booking and if the seat’s empty when the flight closes, you’ll get upgraded.

    ‘This is different. This is a confirmed upgrade where the ticket is converted and you
    are guaranteed. You’re not going to the airport crossing your fingers going “Geez, I hope there is a spare seat”.

    ‘You’re guaranteed. You turn up knowing you’re getting a
    seat and the only person at Qantas who can issue those types of upgrades is the CEO.
    No other executive can do that.

    ‘So it is beyond question that Alan joints authorised these upgrades (for Anthony
    Albanese).’

    Aston enjoyed many upgrades to the pointy end of planes during his
    time as a travel journalist, and understands the attraction for politicians to get up there. 

    ‘These things are tempting and it’s human nature too.
    Once you’ve experienced the front of the plane,
    it’s very hard to go back.

    ‘For politicians, they run around with all these staff and they’ve got chauffeured cars
    and they fly in business, but they don’t get paid like CEOs …

    ‘They’re not in a situation where they can afford to go flying around in the front of the plane on personal travel. 

    ‘A normal person would say “Therefore I won’t (fly business class). But (for politicians) it’s a culture of entitlement.’

    Aston is careful to point out that most people would say politicians are ‘very well paid compared to the average worker’.

    But that doesn’t stop some MPs from desperately seeking a free ride, whether it’s a flight upgrade, concert tickets or the executive box at sporting events. 

    Late on Wednesday night, a spokeswoman Mr Albanese said ‘The Prime Minister did not ever call Alan Joyce seeking an upgrade’.

    ‘All travel has been appropriately declared and is a matter of public record.’

    The partner of the ex-CEO of the Abercrombie and Fitch
    clothing line pleaded not guilty Tuesday in US
    federal court to charges of sex trafficking and interstate prostitution and was released on $10 million bond.

    Briton Matthew Smith, the ex-CEO Mike Jeffries and their fixer James
    Jacobson allegedly used a “casting couch” ploy to groom aspiring male models to attend
    sex parties at which victims were plied with alcohol and drugs.

    After his arrest in October in Florida with Jeffries, Smith
    was held in custody in New York. Smith appeared in court Tuesday
    in Central Islip on Long Island, to the east of New York City.

    Smith pleaded not guilty and was released on a $10 million bond put up by Jeffries and his family, said a statement from the US attorney’s office for the eastern district of New York.

    An AFP photographer saw Smith leave the courthouse with what
    appeared to be a large electronic surveillance bracelet attached to his ankle.

    Another hearing is scheduled for December 10 for Smith,

    Jeffries, 80, was released on a $10 million bond in late October.

    Jeffries and Smith and to hotels in Britain, France, Italy, Morocco to have sex with them.

    Jeffries faces the prospect of life in prison if convicted.

    Jacobson also pleaded not guilty to the same charges as the other defendants and was released on half a million dollars bond in October.

    Namibians returned to vote on Friday in 36 polling stations reopened two days
    after a chaotic election, set to test the ruling
    party’s 34-year grip on power, was marred by
    technical problems.

    Tensions are mounting in the historically
    stable and peaceful southern African nation where Wednesday’s election was marked by long delays and labelled a “sham” by the opposition.

    Some people waited 12 hours in line to vote in presidential and legislative polls, billed as the toughest yet for the
    South West Africa People’s Organisation (SWAPO)
    party, in power since Namibia’s 1990 independence from South africa.

    Wednesday’s queues were caused by many technical problems,
    including issues with tablets used to register voters and shortages of ballot papers.

    In some cases, torches used to show up invisible ink had
    run out of batteries and mobile voting teams had left areas
    with voters still in the queues, it said.

    Facing criticism from both voters and parties, the electoral
    commission extended the vote for a second time, giving Namibians until Saturday evening to vote.

    In the capital Windhoek, at the only polling station picked to reopen, about 60 people showed up
    on Friday, including Kluivert Muuondjo who
    arrived at 4:30 am.

    The 21-year-old student said he had waited in line until 11:
    00 pm on Wednesday but left before being able to vote as he had exams the next day.

    “Everyone will have the chance to vote,” he said. But because Namibians can vote at
    any given polling station, he was worried “everyone will flock to one place again.”

    The disarray led to angry complaints from opposition parties with some calling for
    a halt in the electoral process.

    Opposition parties were scheduled to meet on Friday and
    issue a joint statement, according to Christine Aochamus who represents the Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) party.

    Youth unemployment, enduring inequalities and the emergence
    of a generation born after independence are challenging support towards SWAPO which has ruled since 1990.

    Its candidate, vice-president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, who could become the first woman to lead the country if elected, could face an unprecedented
    second round in the mineral rich country.

    “To open only one place in Khomas (the region of which the capital is part of) is absurd,” said voter Ensley Engermund, who
    also said he couldn’t vote on Wednesday because of long queues
    despite trying four different polling stations.

    “Only 1.5 millions voters are registered and we get this chaos?” asked the 49-year-old security agent.

    “It was to get people frustrated.”

    and the Prime Minister, Lloyd George. That November night in 1919 was Edith Londonderry’s first Eve of Parliament reception, a tradition that continued for 20-odd years.

    Londonderry House, like many of London’s great houses,
    was built for entertaining. In the 18th and 19th centuries, most aristocrats and
    others who lived on their estates for much of the year had a town house
    to which they migrated for ‘the Season’ – those summer months filled with
    balls and parties, when débutantes were presented at court and
    launched into ‘society’ in the hope of making a splendid
    marriage.

    These houses were as magnificent as their owners could manage.
    Built and decorated by the most talented of the age,
    they were sumptuously furnished – walls were hung with
    silk, damask and wonderful paintings – and often embellished with marble statuary.
    The mustard-yellow drawing rooms of Londonderry House were filled with blue
    Sèvres vases and gold plate; in the entrance hall stood
    a Canova statue of Theseus and the Minotaur (now in the Victoria and Albert Museum).
    Suites of rooms, with a ballroom at one end, could be flung
    open for entertaining.

    Georgiana Cavendish (1757-1806), a lover of gambling – and threesomes

    Today most of these palatial mansions have been pulled down or turned into blocks of flats.
    With their disappearance went their furnishings, objets and paintings.
    But what their wonderful rooms looked like can be
    seen in London: Lost Interiors, a book compiled from superb black-and-white photographs of these amazing houses, some of which belonged
    to aristocratic landowners, others to plutocrats or society figures.

    Most of the townhouses – those used for the Season rather than permanent residences – were clustered round Park Lane,
    Mayfair or on Piccadilly, like Devonshire House. Here once lived the fifth Duke of Devonshire and his wife Georgiana
    (pronounced jaw-janer), whom he had married in 1774 when she was just 17.
    She was a celebrated beauty who quickly became a leader of fashion,
    famous for her towering hairstyles three feet high, decorated with birds, fruit, even ships in sail.
    The couple spent 20 years in a ménage à
    trois with Lady Elizabeth Foster, Georgiana’s close friend,
    who was also the Duke’s mistress. Meanwhile, Georgiana’s gambling led to mounting debts: on her death in 1806 they were found to be the equivalent of £4 million in today’s money.

    The rich, restless second Duke of Westminster, AKA Bendor, in his 20s

    Another Park Lane mansion was Grosvenor House, belonging to the dukes of Westminster and one of
    the largest in London, as befitted the family’s status and wealth (their huge fortune
    came from their ownership of Mayfair). Bendor, the blond and handsome
    second duke (1879-1953) was known as one of the richest men in England, lavishing jewels on his mistresses, chief among whom
    was Coco Chanel.

    A restless soul, Bendor would arrive without warning at
    any of his houses (or yachts). All were kept ready: cars fuelled, silver
    polished, servants in livery. But after the First World War,
    during which Grosvenor House had been requisitioned as a hospital, land
    prices had risen so high that even for Bendor it had become uneconomic and he sold it.
    It was demolished in 1927 and the Grosvenor House
    Hotel was built on the site.

    At the other end of the scale was 8 Pelham Place,
    the South Kensington home of Cecil Beaton from 1940 to 1975.
    Superbly furnished by this brilliant photographer, it was described loftily by the diarist
    Chips Channon (for whom the word ‘snob’ could have been invented –
    in his diaries he declares, ‘I am only really happy with royalty’) as ‘a
    tiny but super-attractive snuffbox of a house’.
    Beaton, himself no social slouch, ran him close: at his parties the women often wore stiletto heels,
    which pitted the floor, and later he would point them out, saying, ‘That’s Princess Marina, that’s Julie Andrews, that’s
    Vivien Leigh…’

    Beaton’s near neighbour in Pelham Place, until the mid-60s, was the great stage
    designer Oliver Messel. When Messel’s nephew Tony Armstrong-Jones
    (later Lord Snowdon) became engaged to Princess
    Margaret, Messel laid on a lunch, asking the Princess if there was
    anyone she would particularly like to meet. She said she had
    always greatly admired the witty cabaret star Bea Lillie and so Messel invited her.

    What none of them knew was that Bea Lillie had
    a drinking habit. At the end of lunch she slid quietly
    under the table and was carried upstairs to sleep
    it off. Tony and the Princess took their leave and Messel rushed back to his studio, where he was busy with fittings for Elizabeth Taylor, only to be interrupted
    by a telephone call.

    ‘It’s Kensington Police Station here, Mr Messel,’ said the voice
    at the other end. ‘We thought you ought
    to know that there’s a naked woman on your balcony,
    throwing bottles at everyone who passes by.’

    Among the last of these fascinating residences to survive was the aforementioned Londonderry House.
    Throughout the 20s and 30s it had seen receptions and balls, hosted by the Londonderrys for their four daughters and two granddaughters.
    When eventually it had to go, in July 1962, a farewell party for 300 was given by Alastair,
    the 9th Marquess. Live sounds were supplied by a blues band featuring a swaggering
    young Mick Jagger, no less – presaging the rise of a whole new swinging London generation.

  193. Joe Aston got the kind of book launch every first time author dreams of – massive amounts of free
    publicity online, in newspapers and on TV and radio. 

    And it was all thanks to Anthony Albanese’s ill-informed attack
    on Aston over what was written in his book, The Chairman’s Lounge – The Inside Story of
    how Qantas sold us out.

    Despite the resultant terrible publicity
    – which has led to him being called ‘upgrade Albo’ – and calls for an inquiry, Aston told Daily Mail
    Australia his book is ‘not a hit job on Anthony Albanese’.

    Aston insisted he’s ‘not trying to get a scalp’, but reiterated that the Prime Minister ‘had a direct line
    to Alan Joyce’.

    The book claims Mr Albanese got 22 upgrades from economy on Qantas flights
    by personally requesting them from the airline’s then CEO Mr Joyce – which the Prime Minister has categorically denied.

    According to unnamed Qantas ‘insiders’, 11 of the 22 flights Mr
    Albanese got upgrades for were ‘privately funded’ and
    included overseas trips to Rome, London, Los Angeles and Honolulu. 

    But instead of addressing the claim, Mr Albanese chose to
    shoot the messenger and, in turn, shot himself in the foot. 

    He said Aston was using the accusations to sell books and said he was hiding his
    employment history. 

    ‘I don’t see declarations that he’s a former Liberal Party staffer… I don’t see declarations he’s a former Qantas employee,’ the Prime Minister
    said. 

    But before the book even gets to the contents page there is a photo of Aston that refers to him as the then-Qantas corporate
    communications senior adviser.

    And the first chapter of the book reveals that he worked for then-Liberal MP Bruce Baird, who held the southern Sydney seat of Cook before Scott
    Morrison. 

    ‘My professional history is not a secret or not disclosed, it’s in the first line of
    the first page of the book,’ Aston said on Tuesday night, just before his book
    launch. 

    Though he was grateful for the free publicity Mr Albanese’s response gave the book, Aston was still ‘staggered’ at the untrue claims about him the Prime Minister made. 

    ‘He’s under enormous pressure and I know, I’ve
    seen this many times with public figures and leaders who
    struggle to see their own part in it, the terrible circumstances that they create,’ he said.

    after two days of denials

    Asked if Mr Albanese had been poorly advised in his attack, Aston,
    who is a former Australian Financial Review columnist, wonders
    if the Prime Minister ‘even listens to advice at this point’.

    ‘All he’s doing is talking around the issue and he’s blaming me and he’s blaming other MP’s for also taking upgrades (on Qantas
    flights).

    ‘He’s avoiding the only thing that he can’t talk about, which is, did
    you ask Qantas for confirmed upgrades on your private holidays when you were the Transport Minister?
    The answer is “yes” and he’s desperately trying to avoid saying
    it.’

    Smelling blood, Opposition leader Peter Dutton said the Prime Minister should refer himself to the anti-corruption commission over the flight upgrades.

    Coming on top of Mr Albanese’s tone deaf purchase of a $4.3million clifftop mansion while
    so many people are struggling to pay their mortgage or rent, the
    latest blow to his credibility has led to calls for him to resign.

    Aston refuses to be drawn on this, though. 

    ‘I never expected this (part of the book) to even this part to get this far.
    I really am shocked at how it’s blown up.

    ‘So to the extent that it has, I would say …
    anyone who reads the book will learn that this book is not a hit
    job on Anthony Albanese. This book is about Qantas. 

    ‘Anthony Albanese is an example of how Qantas influences politicians on both sides of the aisle, Labor, Liberal, National,
    you name it. They’ve been doing it for more than a generation.

    ‘They’re the best influence peddler in Australia.
    I’m not here trying to get a scalp. That’s not what this book
    is about and it never was.’

    But the conversation Daily Mail Australia had with Aston mirrors
    the conversations being had across Australia and eventually winds up back
    on Mr Albanese. 

    ‘Even I’ve underestimated how fed up the public is with the freebie mindset of politicians,’ he
    said.

    ‘And unfortunately for Albanese, he’s been in politics a long time and that kind of behaviour is quite normalised to him,
    is what I’ve seen. 

    ‘I mean, he loves the free concert tickets and sitting at the front row of the
    Australian Open Tennis. 

    ‘I went to the Australian Open Tennis as a journalist almost
    every year for 12 years and he was the only Prime Minister (I saw there).

    ‘Those tickets are worth thousands of dollars to sit in the front row of the
    International Grand Slam. He’s the first Prime Minister who
    I’ve ever seen do that.

    ‘That to me is a sign that he doesn’t quite get what it looks like to others when he’s on the gravy train. And I think (the
    claims in the book are) just another example of that.’

    In Australian politics it’s regular practise for an MP’s travel to be booked in economy, then someone in their office phones
    the airline and asks if their flight can be upgraded. 

    The difference with the Prime Minister is that ‘he had a very direct
    line to Alan Joyce,’ Aston said.

    ‘The other thing is there’s a difference between an upgrade where it’s
    in the booking and if the seat’s empty when the flight closes,
    you’ll get upgraded.

    ‘This is different. This is a confirmed upgrade
    where the ticket is converted and you are guaranteed.
    You’re not going to the airport crossing your fingers going “Geez, I hope there is a spare seat”.

    ‘You’re guaranteed. You turn up knowing you’re getting a seat and the
    only person at Qantas who can issue those types of
    upgrades is the CEO. No other executive can do that.

    ‘So it is beyond question that Alan joints authorised these upgrades (for Anthony
    Albanese).’

    Aston enjoyed many upgrades to the pointy end of planes
    during his time as a travel journalist, and understands the attraction for politicians to
    get up there. 

    ‘These things are tempting and it’s human nature too. Once you’ve experienced the front of the plane,
    it’s very hard to go back.

    ‘For politicians, they run around with all these staff and they’ve got chauffeured cars and they fly
    in business, but they don’t get paid like CEOs …

    ‘They’re not in a situation where they can afford to go flying around in the front of the plane on personal travel. 

    ‘A normal person would say “Therefore I won’t (fly business class). But (for politicians) it’s a culture of entitlement.’

    Aston is careful to point out that most people would say politicians are ‘very well paid compared to the average worker’.

    But that doesn’t stop some MPs from desperately seeking a free ride, whether it’s a flight upgrade, concert tickets or the executive box at sporting events. 

    Late on Wednesday night, a spokeswoman Mr Albanese said ‘The Prime Minister did not ever call Alan Joyce seeking an upgrade’.

    ‘All travel has been appropriately declared and is a matter of public record.’
